The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.


Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those others that have been tried from time to time.


Men occasionally stumble on the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.


A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.


A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.


A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

A love of tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril but the new view must come, the world must roll forward
